6.Surah al-Anam

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:

اتَّبِعْ مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ...

6:106. Follow what thou art taught by inspiration from thy Lord:

...لا إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ﴿١٠٦﴾

there is no god but He:

and turn aside from those who join gods with Allah.

Others version:

6: 106

Asad Follow you what has been revealed unto you by your Sustainer – save whom there is no deity and turn your back upon all who ascribe divinity to aught beside Him.

Pickthall Follow that which is inspired in thee from thy Lord; there is no God save Him; and turn away from the idolaters.

Transliteration Ittabi' ma_ u_hiya ilaika mir rabbik(a), la_ ila_ha illa_ huw(a), wa a'rid 'anil musyrikin(a).

[[ Ali’s notes - 932 I understand "Say" to be understood in the beginning of this verse. The words would then be the words of the Apostle, as in fact is suggested in verse 107 below. That is why I have enclosed them in inverted commas. (6.104)

933 Cf. vi. 63, and n. 889. (6.105)

934 The teaching in the Quran explains things by various symbols, parables, narratives, and appeals to nature. Each time, a new phase of the question is presented to our minds. This is what a diligent and earnest teacher would do, such as was Muhammad Mustafa. Those who were in search of knowledge and had thus acquired some knowledge of spiritual things were greatly helped to understand more clearly the things of which, before the varied explanations, they had only one-sided knowledge. (6.105) ]]

15. Surah al-Hijr

The Quranic Text & Ali’s Version:

فَاصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ﴿٩٤﴾

15: 94.  Therefore expound openly what thou art commanded, and turn away from those who join false gods with Allah.

إِنَّا كَفَيْنَاكَ الْمُسْتَهْزِئِينَ ﴿٩٥﴾

15: 95.  For sufficient are We unto thee against those who scoff --

C2016. If the whole world is ranged against the Prophet of Allah, as was -at one time the case with the Prophet, and scoffs at all that is sacred, the sense of Allah's presence and protection outweighs all.

And after all, the scoffers are creatures of a day. Soon will they find their level, and be undeceived as to all their falsehoods. But the Truth of Allah endures forever. (R).

Pickthall’s Version:

15: 94

Pickthall So proclaim that which thou art commanded, and withdraw from the idolaters.

Transliteration Fa-sda' bima_ tu'maru wa a'rid nanil musyrikin(a).

15: 95

Pickthall Lo! We defend thee from the scoffers,
